3-(Dimethoxymethylsilyl)propyl methacrylate CAS No. 14513-34-9

Category: Organic synthesis intermediates

Product Description

3-(Dimethoxymethylsilyl)propyl methacrylate is a dual-functional organosilane that marries a polymerizable methacrylate tail to a moisture-reactive silane head. The molecule contains a CH₂=C(CH₃)COO– group that copolymerizes readily with acrylic resins, a three-carbon propyl spacer, and a (CH₃O)₂(CH₃)Si– moiety that hydrolyzes to silanols and condenses with hydroxyl-bearing surfaces such as glass, silica, or metal oxides. This combination makes it a key adhesion promoter in paints, coatings, adhesives, and fiber-reinforced composites, where it forms durable organic–inorganic bridges, and it is equally valued in dental cements and advanced optical or electronic encapsulants. Because the dimethoxy silane is moisture-sensitive, it must be stored under dry, inert conditions and handled with gloves and adequate ventilation.
